The Ugly

Google Fi

I hope Google indexes this. I cannot reply to a post on their site to support another user that is similarly impacted by the crap Google Fi has subjected us to.

I used Google Fi with success UNTIL they removed the ability to use the US Cellular network. Now they will tell you that you can use it if you are roaming – but I submit that it isn’t so. I have a US Cellular tower a mile away. When both T Mobile and US Cellular were allowed, things worked well for the most part (sometimes I had to force US Cellular). But now I am locked into T Mobile. At the house the signal is very poor or non-existent.

Since the change – I frequently have NO SERVICE. None. If that goes on long enough the phone will switch to the US Cellular network but registration is prevented. The upshot is that I still have no service. If I try to make a call, I am told that I am not registered and that only emergency calls are allowed. This is even true if you allow Wi-Fi calling. Why bother allowing Wi-Fi calling?????

So, the service is a bait and switch proposition. I have had endless conversations with support folks. I have supplied a bunch of information that seems to go nowhere – and they will ask for it repetitively.

Regardless of what they say, this is really ONLY a T Mobile service. I suppose it is possilbe that if you get to an area where there is no T Mobile service, you might be able to use US Cellular. But the phone is constantly searching for service signals and if there is a hint of T Mobile, it will drop the connection to any other service and drop service if the signal is weak.

Stay away if you cannot stand only T Mobile as a service provider.
